AG directed to expedite legal advice regarding Vijayakala’s case

Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne yesterday sent a reminder to the Attorney General directing him to expedite legal advice regarding the case filed against former State Minister Vijayakala Maheswaran.

When the case was taken up in court yesterday, the Organized Crimes Prevention Division informed the court that the investigations had been completed and the reports had been sent to the Attorney General. The Organized Crimes Prevention Division further stated that the Attorney General’s instructions had not been yet received. The Magistrate has sent reminder to the Attorney General directing him to expedite legal advice regarding the incident.

Speaking at an event at the Veerasingham Hall in Jaffna on July 2, former State Minister Maheswaran called for the reorganisation of the outlawed terrorist LTTE group in order to curb the rising crime rate in the North.

The case was put off until July 26 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne yesterday.

The Magistrate fixed further inquiries for July 26.

Vijayakala's case postponed for July 26 - (12:19)

The case filed against former State Minister Vijayakala Maheswaran over her controversial statements regarding the LTTE was postponed until July 26 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne.

When the case was taken up before the court, the Organized Crimes Prevention Division informed the court that the investigations had been completed and the reports had been sent to the Attorney General.
