SLFP, SLPP alliance talks shift to national security

The high-ups of the Sri Lanka Podu Peramuna (SLPP) and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP)-led United People’s Freedom Alliance met at Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapksa’s official residence in Colombo 7 yesterday to discuss the basis for forming their alliance, but dispersed after discussing the country’s national security.

SLPP Chairman Prof. G.L. Peiris, UPFA Parliamentarian and SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara and MP Thilanga Smathipala participated in the yesterday’s discussion - their fifth in arriving at consensus on the matter. SLFP Parliamentarian S.B. Dissanayake said the meeting was postponed to May 30.

“We discussed the security situation instead,” he said.

“We discussed how we should get our act together and work as one to strengthen the national security - the most important task at this juncture,” he said.
