Ministry releases Rs. 25 mn to speed up church restorations

The National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement and Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development and Youth Affairs Ministry has released Rs 15 million as an advance to Sri Lanka Army and Rs 10 million to Sri Lanka Navy to urgently to restore the three churches damaged in the April 21attacks.

Ministry Secretary V. Sivagnanasothy said they released the money on a directive by the Prime Minister as the National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement and Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development and Youth Affairs Minister.

“Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe wants the three churches, St.Sebastian’s in Katuwapitiya, St.Anthony’s Kochchikade and the Zion church in Batticaloa reconstructed expeditiously,” he said.

“He has taken a personal interest in rebuilding these churches. He wants the Army to ensure church accessibility to the people,” he said.

The Ministry released Rs.10 million to Sri Lanka Army to build the Katuwapitiya church and another Rs.5 million to reconstruct the Zion Church in Batticaloa. Rs.10 million was given to Sri Lanka Navy to rebuild the St. Sebastian’s Church in Kochchikade.
