A tabloid claims Cher plans to have her body frozen when she dies in the hopes of being brought back to life at a later time. The story is completely made-up. Gossip Cop can debunk it.
According to the Globe, Cher has been exploring cryonics, the process of freezing a person’s corpse with the goal of resuscitating them in the future. A supposed source tells the magazine she’s “recently become obsessed” with the idea as a result of suffering the Epstein-Barr virus, an autoimmune disease that causes chronic fatigue and other flu-like symptoms.
“She’s struggling every day to find the strength to carry on,” adds the alleged insider, who further contends that Cher has been “bedridden, weak and depressed.” The suspicious tipster goes on to say the singer hopes the Epstein-Barr virus will be cured one day in the future, at which point her frozen body would be revived and restored to full health.
“Everyone’s pretty horrified by it and laughs it off, saying she’s got a few years left in her to decide for sure, but you can tell she’s determined,” adds the seemingly phony source. “You can’t help but wonder if she’s finally going too far.” The so-called “insider” concludes, “This sci-fi stuff is enough to give you the creeps. But Cher doesn’t want to turn to dust and disappear.”
The first problem with the magazine’s phony story is that Cher isn’t currently in the grips of the Epstein-Barr virus. The performer was diagnosed with the disease back in 1986, but she’s kept the condition mostly under control thanks to treatment. In fact, Cher doesn’t appear to have suffered a bout of the illness since 2008. The unreliable outlet also conveniently fails to mention that Cher is currently traveling the globe on her Here We Go Again Tour. The singer’s 82-date tour kicked off last September and runs through December of this year. Simply put, she’s far from “bedridden.”
In addition to the magazine’s report being unfounded, it’s also based on claims from an anonymous “source.” Gossip Cop, however, checked in with Cher’s spokesperson, who tells us on the record that it’s nonsense. Despite what the tabloid’s unidentified tipster asserts, Cher’s rep assures us she’s in perfectly good health and hasn’t looked into cryonics.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time the outlet has targeted the singer’s physical condition. Back in November, Gossip Cop busted the tabloid for falsely maintaining Cher’s friends feared she was too sick to continue performing. As time has proven, that wasn’t the case. Last August, Gossip Cop called out the magazine for making up story about a “dying” Cher getting a “miracle cure” in the form of experimental blood transfusions. This latest article involving Cher’s supposed plans to freeze her body is more fiction.
