Give up Counter-Terrorism Bill – GMOA

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) will resort to islandwide trade union action if the government does not heed the protest against the proposed Counter-Terrorism Act and give it up, GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge said.

Speaking at a press conference at the GMOA headquarters in Colombo yesterday, he said the union will meet all political party leaders, religious leaders and civil organisations to educate them on the negative impact of the Bill.

The GMOA will organise a joint workshop with the participation of all relevant sections to make future decisions in connection with this Bill. The Prime Minister is taking all possible steps to get this Bill passed in the Parliament using the current situation in the country, he said.

The GMOA will make every effort to educate the public on the negative impact of this Bill which facilitate the real terrorists while repressing the people, journalists, trade unionists, and students, he said.
