A Health Ministry Spokesman said 4,025 doctors were appointed to State hospitals in the last four years.

State hospitals, however, now need around 7,000 more nurses. Anuradhapura, Matara, Kalutara and Galle Nursing Training Schools will increase their intake of trainee nurses and Rs 3,000 million has been spent on developing these institutes to accommodate the number of trainees.

The two projects will cost Rs. 18,000 millions to the Ministry.
