Police seized 225 kilograms of Kerala cannabis during two raids in Medawachchiya and Mannar, on Wednesday.
Two suspects were arrested by the Medawachchiya Police with 66 cannabis packets weighing a total of 132kg when a car was inspected by police on a tip-off at the road barrier in CP Town.
The suspects taken into custody are of the ages 48 and 52.
They were identified as residents of Anuradhapura.
They were produced at the Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court, yesterday. Medawachchiya Police are continuing investigations.
Meanwhile, police, acting on a tip-off, took into custody a private bus driver with 93.7kg of Kerala cannabis during an inspection at the Thirikediswaran junction in Mannar.
The suspect was identified as 33-year-old resident of the same area.
He was produced at the Mannar Magistrate’s Court, yesterday. Investigations are continuing.
