FORTY ONE BANK ACCOUNTS OF TERROR SUSPECTS FROZEN

The Police Department yesterday announced that 41 bank accounts containing Rs.134 million belonging to the suspects currently held by the Police over their alleged links with Easter Sunday attacks have been frozen.

These suspects are currently are being questioned by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Terrorist Investigation Department (TID) officials.

Police recently announced that they have already identified over Rs.140 million in accumulated money owned by the terrorists responsible for the attacks.

Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera also stated that immovable assets worth over Rs.7.1 billion owned by them were also identified and measures were being taken to confiscate them.

President Maithripala Sirisena addressing Parliament on May 7 said 13 safe houses used by the suicide bombers responsible for the Easter Sunday terror attacks and 41 bank accounts owned by them will be frozen.

“The Security Forces have found 13 safe houses and 41 bank accounts used by the terrorists.

Those bank accounts have now been frozen. I would like to say that the assets of all those who have been identified as suspects of this act of terrorism should be frozen and all the bank accounts, private homes, properties and assets have already been confiscated”, the President said.
