President committed to usher social uplift

President Maithripala Sirisena said he is committed to ushering economic and social prosperity to the people by eradicating poverty.

He was speaking at a programme in Madirigiriya, Polonnaruwa, on Saturday.

The President opened an organic fertiliser manufacturing centre in Sungalwila. This centre was built with JAICA funds. It can recycle 50 tons of garbage per day and can produce 20 tons of compost fertiliser. The total cost of this project was Rs. 230 million. The project would be carried out in all provinces in the future.

Somawathiya Raja Maha Viharaya Chief Incumbent Ven. Pahamune Sri Sumangala Nayaka Thera, Japanese Ambassador Akira Sugiyama, and representatives of JAICA were present.

The President also granted land title deeds to Mahaweli landowners and irrigational equipment to farmers.
