Batticaloa District TNA Parliamentarian S. Viyalendran and his supporters began a hunger strike on Saturday, at Gandhi Park, Batticaloa, organised by the Tamils Progressive Front in support of Parliamentarian Ven. Athuraliya Rathana Thera, who is on a fast unto death requesting the removal of Minister Rishad Bathiudeen, Eastern Province Governor M.L.A.M. Hizbullah, and Western Province Governor Asath Salley.
Viyalendran said Governor Hizbullah has been working against the Tamil community in the past and has been using his office against Tamils. Therefore, he requested President Maithripala Sirisena to remove Hizbullah from the Governor’s post.
The Chief Incumbent of the Mangalaramaya, Batticaloa, Ven. Ampitiya Sumanaratna Thera and former Eastern Provincial Councillor R. Thurairatnam joined Viyalendran and his supporters in the hunger strike.
