Dengue: Twenty-three deaths recorded this year

A total of 21,000 dengue patients were detected countrywide during the past six months by the health authorities, with 23 deaths recorded, said Dr. Aruna Jayasekara, Director of Dengue Control Unit at the Health Ministry.

The majority of cases were reported from the Western and Central Provinces. A total of 100,000 dengue patients were detected countrywide in 2019 and of them, 153 deaths were recorded.

Hence, all premises of schools and government offices in the Kurunegala District would have to be inspected during this month and 125 PHIs and 400 family health nurses would be deployed in the Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts  this month,” said Dr. S.M.A. Priyadarshana, Kurunegala District DMO, speaking at a meeting of PHIs and family health nurses of the Kurunegala District at the Bingiriya Youth Training Centre, yesterday.
