Lankan Ambassador Ajwad calls on new Omani Labour Minister

Sri Lankan Ambassador to Oman Ameer Ajwad paid a courtesy call onnew Omani Labour Minister Prof. Mahad Said bin Ali Baawain on September 27.

Ambassador Ameer Ajwad congratulated Prof. Ali Baawain on his appointment to the new portfolio and extended his best wishes for the Minister’s successful tenure. Ambassador Ameer Ajwad also extended gratitude to the Government of Oman for the employment opportunities provided to Sri Lankan nationals to work in different sectors in the Sultanate and Minister Ali Baawain hailed the valuable contribution made by Sri Lankan migrant workers for the development of Oman. They had a discussion on issues related to labour, future cooperation in the field of skilled labour and training, as well as collaboration in streamlining labour migration.

The new Ministry of Labour of Oman was recently established by Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, merging the Ministry of Manpower, Ministry of Civil Service, the National Training Fund, and the National Centre for Employment of the Sultanate of Oman. Senior Officials from the Ministry of Labour of Oman and First Secretary of the Embassy Dilini Abeysekara were also present at the meeting.
