Breast cancer awareness programmes to be launched this month

The Breast Cancer Awareness Month, marked in countries across the world every October, helps to raise awareness about the disease, early detection and treatment, as well as palliative care of this disease.

According to the statistics, there are about 3,500 new breast cancer cases reported each year, and there are 10 such cases reported per a day in Sri Lanka.

Therefore, Health authorities have decided to implement several programmes, including awareness campaigns during the month of October under the theme of “Early Detection May Save Your Life”, aiming to improve the chances of survival for people living with cancer by ensuring that health services can focus on diagnosing and treating the disease earlier.

It has been reported that the majority of people living with breast cancer are over 50 years and the number of breast cancer patients have increased during the past few years.
