Highways Minister Johnston Fernando has instructed Road Development Authority (RDA) officials to complete the reconstruction work on the Udahamulla – Madiwela Road within 15 days following the instructions of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Residents using this road face severe inconveniences currently due to the delay of the construction work of the road, which stretches for 1.2 kilometres. The work has been postponed for nearly one year.

According to the instructions of President Rajapaksa, the RDA is undertaking the construction work. This road provides an alternative access for the Nugegoda town, which will be used by motorists mostly during traffic congestion.

Meanwhile, Highways Minister Johnston Fernando has also instructed the relevant officials to develop the Hunnasgiriya – Meemure – Dandupola road without harming the natural beauty of the Meemure forest conservation.

According to the concept of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa titled “Developing Access Roads for Tourist Destinations Across the Country”, this road will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs.250 million.

The entire length of the road is 25.2 kilometres, and it will be constructed under three stages. The Minister further said that the construction of the access road to the Meemure village, which is one of the popular tourist destinations in Sri Lanka, will be greatly benefited for uplifting the livelihoods of the villagers.
