Not aware of INSSSL, monthly forecasts - Pujith

Former IGP Pujith Jayasundara told the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) probing Easter Sunday carnage yesterday that he was not aware that the Institute of National Security Studies Sri Lanka (INSSSL) was established in 2016.

The Commission asked if he was aware that a policy on national security had been formulated, but the former IGP answered that he was not aware of it.

Responding to a query by the Commission whether he had represented the police as the Inspector General of Police, the former IGP said that he had not been notified to attend the meeting.

The Commission pointed out that the INSSSL is an institution established for the protection of national security and the institute made treads forecast monthly.

The Commission asked from the former IGP whether he was aware of the threats and warnings made by the INSSSL monthly letter and if the answer is ‘no’ why there was such a communication weakness.

Responding to queries, Jayasundara said he was not aware of it and the relevant institution should be directed by the Secretary who held the position at that time regarding the role of the INSSSL which started in 2016.

“These people who have a file on the institutions related to the Secretaries to the President and the Prime Minister should participate. There should be definite instructions that standing orders should have been issued that special persons should attend,” he said.

Jayasundera further stated that if he had been invited to the meetings action could have been taken in collaboration with the Terrorism Investigation Division and other divisions after sharing the facts.
