Staff shortage at Yala National Park

There is an acute staff shortage at Yala National Park. This situation is posing a problem in protecting the fauna and flora, Wildlife officials said.

The park is in extent of 180,000 acres. Collecting of ornamental fish and the introduction of parasitic aquatic animal species and plants pose a threat to the biodiversity of the park.

Meanwhile, elephant corridors have been restructured to minimize the human-elephant conflict.

This will enable the elephants to move about freely and to migrate to other jungles without any hindrance and find fodder without obstruction, Wildlife officials said.
