RDA will take over delayed contracts – Minister

The unduly delayed contracts on projects will be taken over by the Road Development Authority (RDA), Highways Minister Johnston Fernando said yesterday.

He was addressing a meeting on Wednesday (30) with the contractors of the I-road project who delayed their projects .

He said that such contractors will be blacklisted and not be granted with future RDA projects.

The Minister said that some contractors have asked for more time to complete the projects they received yet have failed to completed them even within the extended period. He added that some contracts had to be completed in 2018 yet have not been completed. Minister Fernando said that he instructed Highways Ministry Secretary R. W. R. Premasiri to submit a list of such contractors.

The Minister said that under the “Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour” policy by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa the construction of the roads have been expedited.

He instructed the contractors to discuss their issues with the Ministry.

He added that the delay of the projects wastes money and is not good for the names of contract companies and for the Government, which is answerable to the people. He added that there were much works to be accomplished.
