Dr. Saman Weerasinghe appointed Advisor to PM

Former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia Dr. Saman Weerasinghe who is also the Chairman of the Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya Dayaka Sabhawa has been appointed by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa as his Advisor with effect from Wednesday(30).

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa had handed over his Letter of Appointment at Temple Trees. Dr. Weerasinghe had served as the Adviser to the former President (Current PM Rajapaksa) between 2010 to 2015. He had later been appointed as the Sri Lanka Ambassador to Russia from December 2015 to March 2018.

Dr. Saman Weerasinghe, who served as the President’s International Adviser from May 2018 to November 2019, has been committed to enhancing Sri Lanka - Russia economic, cultural and humanitarian relations for the past 30 years.

The Russian Federation, on the recommendation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, has awarded Dr. Saman Weerasinghe the ‘Order of Honor of the Russian Federation’, the highest award given to a foreigner.

Dr. Saman Weerasinghe is an Honorary Graduate of the Moscow Medical University and the recipient of a Russia-Sri Lanka Full Scholarship in 1983.

Dr. Saman Weerasinghe, General Secretary of the Sri Lanka-Russia Friendship Association is a distinguished past pupil of Mahinda College, Galle.
