Sixth year player, all rounder, right hand top order batsman, right arm off spinner, under 23 club cricketer and first eleven captain 2021 Yadhei Sudeera Weeraratne excelled as an fine all rounder for Devapathiraja National School, Ratgama.

His first school was Siri Sumana Junior School from Grade 1 to 5 and initially he took part in the Inter House School Sports Meets in 50 and 100 metre events and came first. When he was in Grade 5 they played a thirty over Big Match against Siri Sumangala Vidyalaya, Hikkaduwa and his first coach was Mr. Rashan and he played in this match.

In 2012 he shifted to Devapathiraja Vidyalaya and in the same year he came under a former Devapathiraja old boy Ranjan Lasantha and got selected to the under 13 team and in his second year he passed the 300 run mark with the top score of 120 runs against Aluthgama Vidyalaya and claimed 12 scalps. In his third year he crossed the 400 run mark with a century versus Gamini Vidyalaya Bentota and bagged 18 wickets and in his final year in under 13 he got 720 runs and notched up centuries against St. Anthonys College, Kandy, St. Thomas College, Matara and made the top score of 140 against St. Servatius College, Matara and he captained the team in his last two years and bagged 30 wickets in his final year.

He played in the under 15 for two successive years and scored 512 runs which included two centuries and the highest score was 130 runs versus Mahanama College, Colombo and he collected three fifties too.

In his final year in the under 15 he scored 802 runs with three centuries and he notched up a double century against Devananda Vidyalaya, Ambalangoda and became the first ever player to score a double hundred for his school in the under 15 cricket history and also he hit five fifties and captured 28 wickets.

He played for the Prima cup for two years for Galle District and for the Southern Province.

Playing in the under 17 team he pased the 300 run mark with four fifties and in his second year he scored 260 runs with two half centuries. His last year in the under 13 is his first year in the first eleven in 2014 and in his first year itself as the “Baby of the Team” He passed the 400 run mark with four fifties in his second year and he crossed the 500 mark with a century against Kegalu Vidyalaya and hit 3 fifties.

In the following year he passed the 700 mark with two centuries and four fifties. In 2018 he passed the 800 run mark with four centuries and scored 180 runs against Asoka Vidyalaya, Colombo and hit six half centuries also.

In the 2018/19 season he passed the magical 1000 runs with four centuries and six fifties and the top score being 140 versus Rahula Vidyalaya, Matara and altogether he collected 1025 runs.

The other players for Devapathiraja to achieve this rare feat were Tharindu Kaushal, Dilshan Kanchana and Raveen Yasas. Last season he scored 702 runs with two centuries and 8 fifties and he bagged 58 wickets with one ten wicket haul and 5 five wicket haul.

During his cricket career for his Alma Mater he has passed 7600 runs in all formats and notched up 19 centuries including a double hundred.

He was the Vice Captain of the team last year and he is tipped to Captain the team this year.

He captained Galle District Team and played for the Southern Province and in the Super Provincial Tournament he played for Dambulla. In addition he played for Negombo Cricket Club in the under 23 tournament.

He is well supported by Foundation of Goodness, Seenigama and the Principal. Alwis, Prefect of Games Nishantha Kumara the coach Ranjan Lasantha and Kushil Gunasekera.
