Mahara, Negombo Prison visits barred

A decision was taken within hours’ today (4) to temporarily halt the visitations of the Mahara and Negombo Prisons in the wake of the woman testing positive for Covid-19 virus from the Divulapitiya, Minuwangoda area.

Prisons Commissioner - General Thushara Upuldeniya said the decision was made to prevent visitors due to the Minuwangoda incident and the department will announce when visitations are allowed again. “The department made this decision in the wake the woman testing positive and we will inform when visitations will resume”.

The country came into a state of panic, when a woman (39) had tested positive for Covid-19, she is an employee at an apparel factory and following the incident, several persons were asked to quarantine and the police imposed curfew in the Minuwangoda area.

Mahara, Negombo prisons closed to visitors (13:25)

The Prisons Commissioner General Thushara Upuldeniya said that, visitors will not be allowed in the Mahara and Negombo Prisons with immediate effect, until further notice

This decision has been taken following the detection of a COVID-19 positive woman employed at an apparel factory from Divulapitiya, Minuwangoda, who tested positive for the COVID-19.
