Renewable energy will provide 70% of electricity by 2030 – Minister Alahapperuma

Seventy per cent of electricity requirement of the country will be provided through the renewable energy by 2030, Power Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said.

He was addressing the gathering after ingurating the solar power panel system in the Thihagoda Pradeshiya Sabha recently.

Solar power will be the cheapest. About 30 per cent of domestic electricity is generated with diesel. The Government spends a huge cost in this regard. The number of families consuming power under 30 units per month is about 12 lakhs and the number of families using electricity monthly less than 70 units is 16 lakhs, Power Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has instructed to set up solar power systems on every rooftop. One million householders will be provided with rooftop solar power panels very soon. Many have been already fixed in Thihagoda and Kamburupitiya in Matara, the Minister said.
