Mahatma Gandhi’s 151st birth anniversary commemorated

The Consulate General of India in Jaffna celebrated the 151st birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi by organising a series of events in the Northern Province on October 2.

The main celebrations were held at the Gandhi Statue, Cargills Square, Jaffna.

Consul General Balachandran garlanded the Gandhi statue and paid floral tributes. Parliamentarians Siddharthan and Sritharan, Northern Provincial Council Chairman C V K Sivagnanam, former Members of Parliament Mavai Senathirajah, Saravanapavan and Suresh Premachandran, Jaffna University Vice Chancellor, Professors, Jaffna District GA, Education Secretary, Jaffna Municipal Commissioner, representatives of main political parties such as M.K. Shivajilingam, Ananthi Sasitharan, Umachandra Pragash, Gajadeepan, All Ceylon Gandhi Seva Sangam Assistant Secretary M.Santhan Sathiyakirthi and many others garlanded the Gandhi statue and paid floral tributes.

Consul General Balachandran received a souvenir by the All Ceylon Gandhi Seva Sangam. Consul General, Chairman Thavarasa and members of the Karaithuraipatru Pradeshiya Sabha, among others, garlanded the statue in Mullaitivu.
