Divulapitiya patient, first community COVID-19 case after two months – Dr. Samaraweera

The patient who was detected from Divulapitiya yesterday is the first community COVID-19 case detected after two months, Epidemiology Unit Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said.

He was speaking at a media conference yesterday at the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) in Rajagiriya.

Dr Samaraweera said that it is paramount for the public to follow proper health practices.

The daughter of the COVID-19 infected woman from Divulapitiya, has also tested positive for the virus, Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said.

Six members of the family of the infected woman were placed under quarantine at the Habaraduwa Quarantine Centre and were subjected to PCR testing yesterday morning.

The results of the PCR tests indicate that the 16-year-old daughter of the woman has contracted the novel coronavirus and she was transferred to the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) in Angoda.

The Public Health Inspectors Association said that 750 close associates of the apparel worker in Divulapitiya have been directed for self-quarantine.
