Strictly Adhere to all health guidelines on COVID - Minister

Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi urged public support to control the spread of COVID-19.

Addressing the media yesterday at the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) in Rajagiriya, the Minister further urged the public to follow all health guidelines to prevent a re-emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country. Minister Wanniarachchi said that the health sector will take strict action to ensure that all sectors adhere to the health guidelines.

“A patient has been reported from society today. So we urge the public to extend support to prevent the spread of COVID-19. As a result of the action taken by the President and the Government and the support given by the people, we have been able to successfully control this disease.We request people to adhere to the health care guidelines issued by the health sector including the maintenance of the distance of one meter, wearing masks and hand washing. Only one patient has been identified from society. If the public support us to control the situation we can save the country.We are fully committed to that,” the Minister said.

She further said that unlike other countries, Sri Lankans followed the advice given by the health sector. It was a great support and strength for us to save the country from COVID-19 menace. COVID-19 is an incurable disease that has killed over a million patients. This disease can be transmitted even by breathing.We have to stop musical shows and parties in the country for a certain period of time.

“The Health Ministry has issued 56 guidelines covering all sectors of the country on how each sector should function.We have to follow those guidelines.The website of the Health Ministry also states how all sectors should function.The health sector is closely monitoring compliance with health guidelines,” she added.

“If you have any fever or symptoms, go to a major hospital in your area. Because we were able to find this patient, since we have instructed all major hospitals to take samples for 10 PCR tests every day. That is how this patient was found.We will take the necessary measures to control the spreading of COVID in this country,” the Minister further requested.

Measures taken to quarantine staff at Brandix facility

Brandix Limited said they have taken all measures to ensure complete containment of the virus including the rigorous disinfection of the affected work site in Minuwangoda.

Brandix has detected that an apparel worker in its manufacturing facility in Minuwangoda is COVID-19 positive. The rigorous protocol implemented across Brandix, and the immediate response and support received from the PHI and relevant health authorities of Sri Lanka enabled the early detection of the patient, ensuring her timely transfer to IDH for immediate treatment and mitigation of any further spread of the virus.

“We continue to assist the relevant authorities, seeking their counsel and extending our co-operation throughout the process. The 45 other workers of the facility that had come into contact with the patient have been quarantined immediately with their families and will undergo PCR testing for further measure.

“We are grateful to the relevant authorities for their speedy response and the continued support extended during this time. We will continue to practice our stringent measures in consultation with the health authorities, keeping the safety and well-being of our employees and their communities as our utmost priority,” Brandix said in a statement.
