Assistant High Commissioner of India in Kandy calls on Mahanayakes

Assistant High Commissioner of India in Kandy Dhirendra Singh called on Most Ven, Mahanayake Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera of the Malwatte Chapter and Most Ven. Mahanayake Warakagoda Gnanarathana Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter on October 7.

The Assistant High Commissioner informed the Mahanayakes about the virtual summit on September 26 between the Prime Ministers of Sri Lanka and India and about various measures taken by the two Governments to improve the long-standing links and shared cultural heritage.

The Mahanayakes appreciated the efforts of the two Governments to strengthen common bonds between the two countries. They said that the grant assistance proposed by India for assisting in deepening people-to-people links of the two countries, particularly in Buddhism through construction and renovating Buddhist monasteries, expositing Buddha’s relics, strengthening Buddhist scholarship and support to the clergy will definitely go a long way in strengthening the bond of the two nations.

The Mahanayakes expressed their happiness on development of Kushinagar Airport as an international airport recognising its importance as a Buddhist site.
