Over 4,400 COVID-19 positive cases

Over 49,600 sent back from quarantine:

A total of 29 COVID-19 positive cases have been detected in the country on Thursday (8), the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) said yesterday.

Accordingly, total COVID-19 infections confirmed so far in Sri Lanka now stand at 4,488.

Among them 19 individuals are linked to the Minuwangoda COVID-19 cluster and the rest (10) were expatriates including five from UAE, two from Ethiopia, two from Iran and one from Sudan, the NOCPCO stated.

By yesterday morning, the total number of COVID-19 positive cases reported from the Minuwangoda garment factory was 1,053.

The NCOPCO further stated that the flight UL504 from London with nine persons arrived yesterday morning (9) and all of them were to be sent to quarantine centres for necessary quarantine process.

Around 136 persons who completed their quarantine left quarantine centres yesterday. Accordingly, 49,689 individuals have been sent back home so far after being quarantined.

Within yesterday, around 2,600 PCR tests were carried out across the country and the total number of PCR tests conducted so far stands at 313,813.
