Lankan and Omani boat-building companies to collaborate

A B2B webinar between prominent Sri Lankan and Omani boat-building companies was held on October 8 with a view of promoting collaboration between the boat-building industries of the two countries. The Sri Lanka Embassy in the Sultanate of Oman and the Export Development Board (EDB) of Sri Lanka jointly organized this B2B webinar, a media release by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Muscat said.

The B2B meetings were held between Executive Director Yasser Al Fairuz together with Chief Executive Officer, Salem Al Touqi of popular Omani boat manufacturing company of Al Fairuz Group and the representatives of Sri Lankan companies, Neil Fernando & Co. (Pvt) Ltd, Danusha Group of Companies and Northwest Marine (Pvt) Ltd.

Opening the B2B meetings, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Sultanate of Oman Ameer Ajwad highlighted that as the two nations sharing the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka and Oman are well placed to collaborate each other in this sector. He also pointed out that both countries have synergies in the areas such as fisheries and nautical tourism and that the boat-building industry of both countries has a huge potential for collaboration in these areas.

During the B2B meetings, the representatives from the boat-building companies of both countries exchanged a range of ideas for cooperation and agreed to collaborate in identified areas for win-win benefits. The companies also agreed to exchange prospective proposals to kick start the process.

Director of Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) Anoma Premathilake, Deputy Director of the EDB Prasanna Jayasinghe and First Secretary of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Muscat W.D.N.M. Abeyesekera participated in the webinar.
