Solar, Wind, Grid Power Generation Projects Development State Minister Duminda Dissanayake recently inspected the sand bed which is known as the Adam’s Bridge in Talaimannar and said if the wind power-based electricity generation capacity in Mannar could be increased, there is a possibility of providing surplus electricity to India via Dhanushkodi.

At present, the largest renewable electricity generation plant of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) is under construction in the Mannar District. It is envisaged to use wind power for adding around 500 MW to the National Grid through this project. It is planned to establish 33 wind turbines along a selected coastline in Mannar for the implementation of the proposed wind power project.

There had been discussions between the governments of India and Sri Lanka with regard to the generation and supply of electricity.
