Munneswaram Temple, Dedimunda Devalaya closed

The historic Munneswaram Temple in Chilaw has been closed for devotees for a week as a COVID-19 positive patient was identified at its premises on Thursday. The Dedimunda Devalaya in Mawanella in the Kegalle District has also been closed for devotees for a week since yesterday (9) due to the identification of another COVID-19 positive patient at its premises, Kurunegala District senior Divisional Secretary W.E. Jayathilake told the Daily News yesterday in Kurunegala.

Meanwhile, the Buddhasasana, Cultural and Religious Affairs Ministry has informed all heads of religious places countrywide in a special circular that they should limit the participation of devotees to 50 percent in religious places with effect from yesterday (9) due to the prevailing threat of COVID-19 pandemic. Devotees also have to follow all health guidelines given to prevent the spread of the disease.
