All shops, pharmacies open during quarantine curfew

All shops, supermarkets, pharmacies and other outlets selling essential products were permitted to be opened in the 18 Police Divisions in the Gampaha District during the quarantine curfew, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ajith Rohana said.

“The quarantine curfew is currently in effect in the following the Gampaha, Ganemulla, Kirindiwela, Dompe, Malwathuhiripitiya, Meerigama, Nittambuwa, Pugoda, Weyangoda, Minuwangoda, Weeragula, Weliweriya, Pallewela, Yakkala, Ja-ela, Kadana, Divlapitiya and Seeduwa Police Divisions until further notice,” the DIG said.

“All pharmacies, supermarkets including Sathosa, Co-operative shops, animals’ products and distribution shops, shops owned by the Fisheries Corporation, Government and Semi-Government agencies producing food and beverages have been permitted to open during the quarantine curfew effective areas until 8.00 p.m.,” DIG Ajith Rohana said.

DIG Ajith Rohana highlighted that only those with a prescription or a hospital clinic card issued by a doctor will be allowed to visit pharmacies during the quarantine curfew and the nearest outlet within walking distance will allow visiting.

DIG Ajith Rohana further said that it is imperative that the public visiting supermarkets and other outlets which are open during the quarantine curfew should adhere to the COVID-19 health guidelines such as wearing face masks and social distancing.

“One person from each family will be allowed to visit pharmacies and other outlets and legal action will be taken against those who violate the regulations,” he said.
