All tournaments conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) for the month of October have been postponed indefinitely due to the prevailing situation in the country.

The SLC Tournament Committee initially cancelled the ongoing Major Youth Under-23 cricket semi-finals last Tuesday, which was scheduled to be held on October 7 at two venues in Colombo. They have further decided to cancel the listed events for this month. After consultation with the health authorities, they were compelled to take this decision.

SLC was set to conduct the Major Tier T-20 tournament from October 23 soon after the completion of the Under-23 tournament. Bandula Dissanayake, Chairman of the SLC Tournament Committee, said, “The prevailing situation is not very conducive to engage in sports. When there is an alert and the whole country is striving hard to fight against this pandemic, we as a responsible body, should support the Government in their endeavor. Hence, we will monitor the situation closely and come to a decision next week on the plight of the tournament listed for this month.”

When inquired about the status of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), he said, “We have scheduled it for end of next month. There is no change in the dates up to now. Once again, it is too early to make a prediction, but for sure it will also be taken into consideration in the upcoming weeks. If things return to normal, then it will proceed as scheduled.”
