Mahamaya Girls School, Kandy is a name that has been established over the years as a School in Kandy famous for its sports activities – Netball, Athletics, Hockey and Swimming are high up on the list of priorities. The School is still very active in those four sports and the School authorities have added one more sport-Cricket too on the list thus giving the young and

energetic Girls a wonderful opportunity to widen their sporting capabilities.

The Cricket team of Mahamaya did extremely well in the year 2018 when they became one of the best eight teams selected from the Girls Cricket tournament organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association.

In the mid-nineties they became Mayor’s Cup Champions at the Cricket Tournament held by the Kandy Municipality and in the year 2000 Mahamaya was the only Girls School that participated in the Cricket Tournament organized by the Women’s Cricket Association led by Ms. Gwen Herat and Mahamaya became third after Anuradhapura and Kegalle District teams. For any sport to thrive specially at School level the sport must have the backing of the School authorities ,likewise the sports loving Principal of the School Lalitha Egodawela, Prefect-of- Games Nilu Wijekoon and Teacher-in-charge Nirosha Erandathie Jayakody were very supportive.

The School started Cricket practices three weeks ago after the Corona Epidemic and among the senior girls who attended the practice sessions were Dharani Bandara, Aloka Thilakaratne, Sayuni Premaratne,Meedum Hansanie, and others.
