SriLankan employee at BIA tests positive for COVID-19

SriLankan Airlines yesterday confirmed that an employee of the airline at SriLankan Cargo Operations Division at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) tested positive for the COVID-19 virus this morning.

SriLankan Airlines in a statement said the staff member concerned is a resident of the Gampaha district and is currently receiving treatment. It is believed that he has contracted the virus from external sources.

“50 co-workers who worked on the shift roster with the affected staff member have been subjected to PCR tests. The results are awaited. The airline has taken every step to protect the workforce as per the Government’s COVID-19 healthcare guidelines to prevent the spread of the virus within the organization and continues to work closely with health and other government agencies,” the statement said.

Issuing an urgent statement SriLankan Airlines stated that, an employee attached to the SriLankan Cargo operations division at the Bandaranaike International Airport has tested positive for COVID-19.

The employee is a resident of the Gampaha district, has been admitted to hospital and is receiving necessary treatment. It is believed that he has contracted the virus from external sources.
