Paddy, crops cultivated in 191,737.29 hectares in Anuradhapura – Anuradhapura GA

The Anuradhapura District Agriculture Committee said that farmers have cultivated paddy and other crops in 191,737.29 hectares for the Maha season in Anuradhapura. Anuradhapura Government Agent R.M. Wanninayake said that a paddy harvest of 686445.91 metric tonnes is expected for the season. 

“We are encouraging farmers to cultivate paddy in 46094.6 hectares. About 2000 small tanks supply water to 56380.69 hectares and medium tanks provide water for 11354 hectares,” he said.  

“Maize has been cultivated in 40,000 hectares . Udu will be cultivated 6514 hectares,” he said. 

He said that the line Agriculture Ministry has been asked to provide maize seeds at a low rate. Soya, kurakkan, cowpea, green gram, ground nuts, ginger, chili and onion will be grown in 51903.4 hectares including maize.    Fertilizer Secretariat Assistant Secretary said that 30,000 metric tonnes of Urea, MOP and TSP will be provided to the 43 agrarian development centers in time. About 3213.64 metric tonnes of carbonic fertiliser from 6,980 carbonic fertilizer units of the Agrarian Development Centres will be provided. Anuradhapura Zonal Irrigation Director's Office sources said that water capacity of 13 large tanks stands now at 166136 acre feet.
