Fourth year first eleven cricketer, right hand middle order batsman, right arm medium pace bowler, athlete and football player Shon Shenil Rodrigo excelled as an all rounder for Loyala College, Negombo and later for St. Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa.  

He was born on 17th June 2002 in Rome, Italy and for his schooling he returned to Sri Lanka and got admitted to Loyala College, Negombo to the Grade One and during this period his Rector was Reverend Father Trevor Martyn. He attended cricket practices in the under 13 cricket team and came under Dinesh Ranatunga and in the following year he scored 132 runs and claimed 9 scalps and in his final year he bagged 19 wickets.  

Playing in the under 15 team in his first year he scored 230 runs and claimed 27 wickets and in his second year he collected 462 runs with 28 wickets. With these performances under his belt he was selected to represent Gampaha District and Gampaha Province in the Prima Cup in the Gampaha District cricket tournament and representing his Alma Mater in five matches he scored 732 runs with an unbeaten 303 runs against Jayakody Maha Vidyalaya and another 165 runs and bagged nine wickets.  

He played in the under 17 for one year and scored 311 runs and captured 14 wickets. In the mean time he played for the college under 19 team for four successive years and in his last year he scored 200 runs. During this period he was coached by Maditha Bandara and Tharanga Perera. He played for the school under 16 and 17 teams and did athletics in the inter house sports meet and he did 200, 400 metres and high jump. He represented his school in athletics for the under 15 and 17 teams in the divisional and Zonal meets and won places.  

After that he joined St. Joseph Vaz College in 2018/19 cricket season and came under Tharanga Liyanapathirana and played in the Big Match against their arch rivals St. Mary’s College, Chilaw and also played in the 2019/20 inter school cricket season and scored 137 runs with a fifty and claimed 33 wickets with two five wicket hauls and presently he is in the under 23 cricket squad of Negombo Cricket Club.
