Three sentenced to life of drug trafficking

The three accused who were found guilty for possessing and trafficking heroin in three separate cases, were sentenced to life imprisonment by the Colombo High Court.

Accordingly, A.W. Manoj and T.R.H. Karunaratne from Borella and Muniyandi Upul Chaminda alias ‘Konda Chaminda’, of Maligawatte were sentenced by the Colombo High Court. The cases were taken up

before High Court Judge Vikum Kaluarachchi and he issued the verdict after lengthy trials and he observed that the prosecution has proved the cases beyond reasonable doubts and the judge sentenced the accused separately.

The first accused, A.W. Manoj was arrested with 6.68 grams of heroin following a raid carried out by the Police Narcotics Bureau in 2013.

The second accused, T.R.H.Karunaratne was arrested in connection for the possession of 2.37 grams of heroin following a raid carried out by the Excise Department on August 27,2013 in Wellampitiya.

The third accused, Muniyandi Upul Chaminda alias ‘Konda Chaminda,’ a resident of Maligawatta was arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division on November 14, 2013 for possession and trafficking of 3.29 grams of heroin.
