A female nurse from the Gampaha district working in the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital who had gone home on leave on October 4 has tested positive for COVID-19. The nurse's 10-months-old infant has also tested positive for COVID-19.

The nurse's colleagues at the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital in the ward have also been quarantined and subjected to PCR tests.

At present, three people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Eastern Province and are under treatment at specific quarantine centres, said Provincial Health Director A.Lathakaran on Tuesday (13).

The hospital authorities have advised the public not to visit the hospital and that the clinic medicines will be sent to them by post.

In the meantime, the Police and PHIs are strictly enforcing the wearing of masks in Batticaloa. People who do not wear the masks will be punished under the law.
