Annual Katina pinkamas at 1,419 Buddhist temples in the Kurunegala District to be held this month have been cancelled to prevent COVID-19 from spreading, Wayamba Province Adhikarana Sanganayake and Kurunegala District Sasanarakshaka Bala Mandalaya Chairman Most Ven. Rekawa Jinarathana Nayaka thera said.
The Nayaka Thera was addressing a press briefing at the Kurunegala District Secretariat on Tuesday.
“The decision was made to assist the Government in arresting the pandemic,” the Nayaka Thera said.
The Thera added that the Maha Nayaka Theras of the three Chapters will be informed of the decision in writing.
