Project Management Office for speedy and efficient process of administration of justice

The Cabinet has given its approval to set up a Project Management Office to expedite the process of administration of justice in an efficient manner.

The Justice Minister has sent a Cabinet paper to look into the issues in the judicial sector and to formulate a mechanism for the betterment of the judicial sector within a period of three years.

Accordingly, Justice Minister Ali Sabry has appointed five separate committees consisting of senior lawyers with the objective of resolving the issues relating to respective fields within three years. The appointment letters were handed over to the committee heads and committee consultants by the Justice Minister last Tuesday (13). President’s Counsel U.R. de Silva was appointed as the head of the Judicial Infrastructure Development Committee. Shavindra Fernando PC has been appointed as the head of Criminal Law Reform Committee. Navin Marapana PC was appointed as the head of Digitalization and Automation of the Judiciary Committee. Attorney-at-Law Kaushalya Nawaratne was appointed as the head of Commercial Law Reforms. Attorney-at-Law Lasitha Kanuwanaarachchi has been appointed as the head of Civil Law Reforms. Meanwhile, Attorney-at-Law Sanjeewa Dasanayake, Attorney-at-Law Shehan A. Gunawardene, Attorney-at-Law Shamith Fernando, Attorney-at-Law Ruwantha Cooray and Attorney-at-Law Nishan Sydney Premathiratne and Attorney-at-Law Sanjith Senanayake were appointed as the legal consultants to these committees.

Attorney-at-Law Shehani de Alwis will function as the specialist of the committees. Attorney-at-Law Ramzi Bacha was appointed as the Research Officer of the Committees.
