UN support to revive tourism industry

UN Resident Coordinator Hanaa Singer said that UN has pledged its fullest support to revive the country’s tourism industry affected by the COVID 19 pandemic.

A set of proposals in this regard has already been submitted to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) by the UN.

She made these remarks during a discussion held with Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga.

She further said that assistance will also be given to implement a social security network for the benefit of the people engaged in the tourism sector.

The Minister said that the SLTDA has given due consideration to the proposals submitted by the UN. He further said plans are afoot to bring foreign tourists in small groups after successfully controlling the latest COVID-19 wave.
