Two dead after elevator collapses in Kandy

Two construction workers at a five-storey building on Dharmashoka Mawatha in Kandy, were killed when a temporary elevator collapsed. The accident in the textile shop had taken place when the temporary lift set up to carry clothes up and down had collapsed at around 9.00 am yesterday.

The two construction workers were carrying cement to a section of the building which was under construction.

Police say the accident took place when the two workers tried to carry eight bags of cement in the temporary lift at the shop set up to carry clothes up and down. The deceased have been identified as 52 year old Kalaldore Gedara Upali, a resident of Uduwawala, Katugastota and Aravinda Gedara Ambalangoda, a resident of Sirimal Uyana 10G, Augustawatte, Kandy.
