Daily News first Trincomalee Correspondent passes away

K.D. Jayasekara, the first Trincomalee District Correspondent of the Daily News from Lake House, passed away on the 17th of this month, three months ago.

 Educated at St. Joseph’s College, Trincomalee (in English Medium), Jayasekara served in the Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy.

He later left them and joined Lake House in 1953 as the Trincomalee Correspondent for the Ceylon Daily News.

He provided news to Lake House’s Sinhala, Tamil, and English newspapers and was also the Trincomalee District Reporter for the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation and the Rupavahini Corporation.

In addition, he provided news to international media such as Reuters, French News, Lankapuvath, and Asia Week.

He imported stamps and early day covers from foreign countries, printed souvenir covers, set up a stamp club, and printed and sent a magazine containing the Ceylon Pilatelic, a stamp information magazine. Jayasekara, the husband of Banduwathi, who died five years ago, is a father of three daughters: Manel (Department of Forest Conservation), Thakshila (Manchu Editor) Visakha (former Journalist).
