Quarantine curfew affected to get Rs. 5,000

* 72,345 families in Gampaha district to benefit
* Finance Ministry allocates Rs. 400 million

The Government has decided to provide an allowance of Rs.5000 to each and every family who had lost their livelihood due to the quarantine curfew imposed by health officials to contain the spread of the coronavirus from Tuesday (20).

Accordingly 72,345 families in the Gampaha district will benefit by this programme for which the Finance Ministry has allocated Rs. 400 million through the intervention of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and Presidential Task Force on Economic Revival and Poverty Alleviation Chairman Basil Rajapaksa and Minister Prasanna Ranatunga.

Gampaha District Secretary Sunil Jayalath said families living in the Minuwangoda, Divulapitiya, Attanagalla and Meerigama Divisional Secretariat Divisions where curfew is in force and those living in five villages where movements have been restricted, will receive an allowance of Rs.5,000 under the first stage. He said a request has been made to the Finance Ministry to allocate necessary funds to grant this allowance to the people living in other 16 Police Divisions in the Gampaha district where the curfew came into effect.

The payment will be distributed with the assistance of Samurdhi Development Department. The District Secretary said that these families in these Police Divisions will receive the allowance under the second stage. Gampaha district SLPP leader and Minister Prasanna Ranatunga had made a request to the President to grant a Rs 5,000 allowance to all families who lost their livelihood due to the imposition of the quarantine curfew at the last Cabinet meeting.
