Three family members of the Colombo Dockyard employee who was identified as a COVID-19 positive patient were tested positive for the infectious disease, Galle District Regional Epidemiologist Venura K. Singharachchi said.
The patient was detected in Ahungalla of the Balapitiya Medical Officer of Health (MOH) division. Nine members of the infected employee were referred for PCR tests on Tuesday and three of them were found to have contracted the virus, the epidemiologist said.
“This was the first time in the Galle District when the virus was directly transmitted from an infected person to another. This sort of infections can be successfully controlled provided that the public follows the COVID-19 health regulations correctly and promptly. We are ready to provide every hygienic facility to the public”.
