88 arrested for violating curfew

Within 24-hour period the police had arrested 88 persons who had violated the curfew orders. Since the curfew was imposed from October 4 till this morning the police have arrested 691 persons who had violated. The police had also taken 92 vehicles into their custody.

Quarantine curfew violations: 88 arrested

Eighty eight persons were arrested for violating quarantine curfew yesterday, Media Spokesperson, DIG Ajith Rohana said.

He further said that 17 vehicles also were taken into custody within the period.

"Accordingly, 691 persons were arrested and 92 vehicles taken into custody so far," he added.

The quarantine curfew is currently in effect in 44 Police Divisions in Gampaha area and 5 Police Divisions in the Kuliyapitiya area until further notice while five Police Divisions in the Colombo North area will be enforced until 5 am on Monday.

He requested from the residing persons of the quarantine curfew affected areas to support the police and other health authorities to control this pandemic situation while adhering to the COVID-19 health guidelines.

DIG Ajith Rohana said that legal action will be taken against those who violate the quarantine curfew regulations.
