The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) yesterday wrote to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena requesting to accommodate nine Opposition MPs, who voted in support of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution (20A) and its Clause on dual citizenship, in the Government side.

Chief Opposition Whip MP Lakshman Kiriella, in a letter addressed to the Speaker, said the Parliamentary group of the SJB has decided to oust their party members MPs Diana Gamage, Aravindh Kumar, Ishak Rahuman, Faizal Cassim, H.M.M.Harees, M.S.Thowfeek, Nazeer Ahamed, Ali Sabri Raheem and M.M.Musharaff.

Thereby, he requested that aforementioned Parliamentarians be assigned seats in the Government side. Eight of the above MPs voted in support of the 20A Bill, while MP Musharaff voted against the second and third readings of the Bill but voted in favour of the Dual Citizenship Clause.
