Quarantined families in Kegalle assured relief

Plantation Industries State Minister Kanaka Herath said that quarantined families in the Kegalle District will be provided with relief.

The State Minister was participating in the recent Kegalle District COVID-19 Prevention Committee Meeting chaired by Sabaragamuwa Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa at the Kegalle District Secretariat Office.

Many steps were taken here to eradicate the COVID-19 in the Kegalle District.

Restaurants will be closed and traffic restrictions will be tightened, the committee stated.

The Governor informed the District Health Officers to expedite the procurement of a PCR testing machine for the Kegalle General Hospital.

Kegalle District Health Services Director Dr. Kumara Wickramasinghe said that the steps to purchase a modern PCR machine that can perform about 1,000 PCR tests per day has already commenced. He said it will take about a month for the machine to reach the hospital

Sixty six COVID-19 positive cases have been detected in the Kegalle District so far and 2,707 persons are being quarantined. Eight doctors are among those being quarantined.

Grama Niladharis and public servants must be deployed under a committee comprising public representatives to provide relief, the meeting decided.

The committee also decided to restrict entry into the Kegalle District and entry into another district from the Kegalle District will be subjected to strict travel restrictions.

The Rambukkana and Undugoda Hospitals have been reserved for COVID-19 patients and the Warakapola Hospital could also be reserved for quarantine persons if a need arises, the committee decided.
