Quarantine curfew throughout 118 Police Divisions until November 9 – Police Spokesman

Quarantine curfew has been imposed in 118 police divisions throughout the country and will be in effect until 5.00 am on November 9, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.

About 112 police divisions in the Western Province, five police areas in Kuliyapitiya and Eheliyagoda are in curfew. Quarantine curfew has also been enforced in Kurunegala.

The Police Spokesperson said that it was to curtail the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

The DIG added that delivery services will be allowed to operate during curfew to transport essential supplies and these operators could obtain instructions from their respective police stations.

“On Saturday, employees of 84 institutions had been given permission to travel using their service IDs and another five we added to that list yesterday. Eighty nine essential services establishments were permitted to have their employees report for work using their service IDs,” he said.

He said that 70 persons have so far been arrested for failing to wear face masks and not maintaining social distancing. He, therefore, urged people in the curfew areas not to venture out of their homes unless for essential services. He added that even people in areas where there is no curfew should ensure that they wear face masks at all times and maintain social distancing when they leave their homes.

The DIG said that so far about 125 police personnel had contracted the virus and additional police officers had been deployed to carry out duties, and the infected police officers had been directed for treatment.
