‘Doctors’ efforts in preventing COVID-19 useless if public behave recklessly’

Efforts of hundreds of doctors in preventing the spread of COVID-19 will be useless if the public behave irresponsibly regardless of the instructions by the authorities, Veddas’ Chief Uruwarige Wannila Aththo said.

He was speaking to the media in Dambana on Friday. He said the responsible behaviour by society will make it easy for the medical officers to keep the situation under control, as this global pandemic will not last soon.

“The first wave was controlled immediately by the authorities in a joint effort. Then we forgot that we had Corona. A medicine for the disease is yet to be found.”

“Therefore, the best way to stay safe from the pandemic is to stay inside houses,” he said.

Debating and discussing in Parliament regarding the roots of the second wave is useless. Society can be protected from the pandemic only if the people follow the guidelines by the Government and the authorities,” he said.
