Trippers to Nuwara Eliya placed under quarantine

Fifteen persons who had visited Nuwara Eliya in violation of the quarantine curfew imposed in the Western Province to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic had been placed under quarantine in the hotels where they were staying. Nuwara Eliya SSP Buddika Udugamasooriya said the travellers had arrived there from Mount Lavinia, Dehiwala and Kaduwela on October 28 and 29 bypassing main roads and violating health regulations.

Police said that they had deployed police officers along the main roads entering Nuwara Eliya to divert the tourists. However, those 15 persons had reached Nuwara Eliya bypassing the roadblocks.

The Nuwara Eliya District Secretary has also instructed the resort owners not to admit tourists to the resorts in Nuwara Eliya due to the risk of spreading the COVID-19 pandemic.
